Microsoft releases case study on FileControl
Critical Knowledge and Litigation Management System dramatically speeded up after upgrade to SQL Server 2005
REDMOND, WASHINGTON: 12 October 2006. Microsoft Corporation released a case
study on FileControl following a comprehensive study conducted at the Microsoft
headquarters in Redmond, Washington. A development team from FileControl Partners
Ltd, a leader in the field of web-based information and knowledge management technology,
had visited the Microsoft SQL Server customer lab earlier, for a thorough examination
of FileControl Knowledge & Litigation Management Systems. During the live study,
tweaks to the database and an upgrade to SQL Server 2005 were found to dramatically
speed up key functions.
"If you're a typical FileControl client, you may have to wade through 10 million
pages of documents for a case," said Ahmad Mian, President and CEO of FileControl
Partners Ltd. "You need incredibly powerful full-text searches on an immense volume
of data. You need it to be fast, and you need it to be secure. With these challenges,
FileControl is the perfect showcase for SQL Server 2005's speed, flexibility and
reliability."
Using SQL Server 2005, FileControl accomplished full-text searches 25 times faster
on a 1 terabyte database. Searches that once took 20 seconds, could be completed
in under a second. Data insertion was done thrice as fast as before, and re-indexing
the database, which once took three hours, could now be done in under 10 minutes.
Research indicates that company personnel spend as much as 60% of their time searching
for paper-based documents. FileControl enables clients, including a number of Fortune
500 companies, to organize, store, search, share and work with millions of pages
of critical documents quickly, in a secure Internet environment, where they cannot
be accessed by unauthorized users.
Following the case study, FileControl upgraded its server infrastructure to from
SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005, and is now in the process of upgrading to Visual
Studio 2005 and Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.
